(European market only)
INSULATOR
Pyranit ceramic Insulator
Bosch spark plugs feature a
Pyranit insulator.
The most important part of
the spark plug. It’s made of 95% Aluminum Oxide and glassy additives to
hold up under extreme voltage and temperatures.
The Thermal conductivity of
the insulator is crucial for establishing the plug heat range
performance under varied conditions.
Bosch has gone one step
further to create an exclusive insulator mixture for optimum performance
in industrial engine applications.
INSULATOR FOOT

Bosch

brand "C"
Notice the differences in designs of the insulator “Foot” between Bosch
and Brand “C”.
Bosch optimized the shape and heat transfer properties of the insulator
to improve thermal behavior and resistance to combustion deposits.
SHELL STRENGTH

Bosch
brand "C"
The optimization of our insulator foot allows more material to be added
in the thread portion of the insulator shell.
The extra material provides superior resistance to deformation when the
spark plug is torqued in the cylinder head.
(Deformation of the shell can be directly related to plug failures as
the seal is broken between the insulator and the shell, causing
misfires.)
SHELL MATERIAL

Bosch
brand "C"
Specially designed steel
shell.
Shell and insulator are mated together with an
electro-heat-shrinking process, and then nickel plated.
Some manufacturers use zinc plating, but Bosch found that nickel plating
prevents plugs from seizing in cylinder heads.
Zinc is more susceptible to seizing. You can see the difference.
SEAL
& RESISTOR

Bosch
brand "C"
Electrode seal and
Proprietary resistor.
A gas tight seal in
this location prevents “Blow by” of hot combustion gasses that rob an
engine of power.
Bosch seals are made of
an excusive mixture of graphitized-metal-glass to maintain consistent
conductivity under all operating temperatures.
This also provides the
proper resistive value necessary for reliable engine operation in
electronically controlled spark ignition engines.
Brand “C” uses a lesser
quality, pre-manufactured resistor.
TERMINAL STUD

Bosch

brand "C"
Full length terminal
stud and threaded brass terminal nut.
Bosch engineers
left no detail unchecked when building this plug.
Our plug features a full
length terminal stud and brass terminal nut for maximum strength.
This ensures a solid,
vibration free connection while a threaded and crimped brass terminal
nut is added for maximum,
corrosion free
conductivity.
Brand “C” uses a lesser
design.
ELECTRODES
Platinum / Iridium Alloy
Center and Ground electrodes.
Bosch engineers worked
to perform “in-service” field tests of several alloys.
This collective testing lead
to the development of a proprietary Platinum and Iridium alloy which
provides superior wear and durability,
for a more consistent level
of performance over the life of the plug.
Recognizing that this industry, based on location, has large variances
in gas btu quality as well as various impurities,
the in-service testing provided an extremely challenging operating
environment. Bosch did not encounter a single failure or engine shut
down during the test.

Bosch
Brand "C"
Bosch’s 100+ year experience manufacturing automotive
spark plugs has aided in our challenge to develop a superior industrial
plug. Bosch uses an exclusive welding process to attach the Platinum /
Iridium alloy. This ensures a secure, fracture and virtually void free
weld. You can see the difference between Bosch and Brand “C” in the
cross sectioned photos.
